Entry from: Hoi An, Vietnam Entry Title: “Handbags in Hoi An” Entry: “We arrived in Hoi An, after an interesting detour through Danang and the infamous China Beach. We were disappointed that it was just as hot, if not hotter than Cambodia with the added 80% humidity. We were the only travelers in sight for miles and definitely the only ones who spoke a lick of English. We closed our eyes and pointed to a guesthouse/hotel in our Lonely Planet for Danang, only to find it had less than par standards, much to our chagrin. It didn’t matter as we were only spending one night there and there were functional beds and air conditioning. We made our way down to the restaurant where many of the local Vietnamese gathered for communal dinners. The menus were only in Vietnamese and our waiter couldn’t translate anything. Finally, he beckoned us over to a large tank where he pointed to all of the fish swimming around…wow, that’s fresh catch! Since I couldn’t decipher what types of fish we were looking at and because I have a fatal allergy to certain kinds of fish, we politely declined and attempted to find another restaurant. We found ourselves in yet another communal dining situation and we were definitely “the white elephant” in the room. Families were craning their heads to look at us, and definitely were not …
